For the renewal of an old sewer line in Hombrechtikon, Switzerland the new Compact Cable Burster TERRA-EXTRACTOR X 300 C was used. The contractor Zehnder Spezialbau from Bennau was responsible. The old clayware pipe was collapsed and had to be renewed over a length of 27 m (90 ft) by calibre bursting. This method uses a calibre head, which calibrates the old pipe to its original diameter and which displaces broken fragments sidewise. Then a new HDPE pipe with a little smaller diameter is pulled in. The sewer line runs underneath a warehouse, therefore the renewal had to be done trenchless. The new pipe had to be pulled in from a manhole. This is why the compact and dismountable TERRA-EXTRACTOR X 300 C was chosen.
First the Ø 22 mm (0.86“) pulling cable is slid through the old pipe.
The pulling cable is inserted into the cable burster.
The X 300 C during pipe pulling. The speed was between 25-30 m/h
(80-100 ft/h).
The new HDPE pipe OD 125 mm (5“) is pulled in.
The pipe has reached the manhole.
